Take a Culinary Journey at the Historic Plains Hotel
Experience award-winning, American Western cuisine made from the finest, fresh ingredients
2006, Cheyenne, Wyoming … Within the walls of the historic Plains Hotel, the Capitol Grille and the Trail Coffee Shop provide delectable tastes of the West. The Plains Hotel has been the icon of the elegant High Plains lodging and dining experience since 1911, offering the guests award-winning cuisine in the hotel’s charming, historic atmosphere.
The Capitol Grille
Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and room service, the Capitol Grille features the finest, fresh, local ingredients, including high-quality, naturally tender, Wyoming beef products, all prepared with care by the executive chef and his staff. The restaurant’s goal is to serve classic Western cuisine with “Old West Meets New West” flair.
Breakfast selections range from an American Cowboy Breakfast of eggs, hickory smoked bacon, sausage or ham with hash browns and toast or buttermilk biscuits, to the Campfire Burrito to Tin Pan Trail Malted Waffles. For those looking for something a bit lighter, there’s a Flat Creek Frittata, which is an eggbeater omelet filled with veggies, or a fresh fruit platter. The lunch menu features an impressive selection of appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and pastas.
Dinner at the Capitol Grille is truly something to write home about. Appetizers range from crab cakes served on a bed of spring greens drizzled with a Cajun remoulade to Let’er Buck Buffalo Wings and calamari dusted in seasoned citrus flour and served with chipotle sauce. Next, choose a fresh salad or try the French Five Onion Soup. Entrees include beef tenderloin medallions, Wyoming rack of lamb, pheasant breast stuffed with corn bread, mushrooms and lobster, and the Plains Hotel’s special prime rib. An extensive wine list complements the menu. A private dining area is available upon request.
The Trail Coffee Shoppe and Arbuckles’ Ariosa Coffee
Reminiscent of a General Store from the old West, the Trail Coffee Shoppe serves freshly baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches, soups, salads, homemade sandwiches, ice cream, a wide selection of hot and cold beverages, and the legendary Arbuckles’ Ariosa Coffee, a cowhand favorite since 1865. That’s when John Arbuckle and his brother Charles patented a process for roasting and coating coffee beans with an egg and sugar glaze to seal in the flavor and aroma. Marketed under the name Arbuckles’ Ariosa Coffee in patented, airtight, one-pound packages, the new coffee was an instant success with chuck wagon cooks faced with the task of keeping cowboys supplied with plenty of hot coffee out on the range. It’s a favorite today as well, still featuring the original flying angel trademark. For more information, visit www.arbucklecoffeetraders.com.
