The Historic Plains Hotel Provides a Glimpse into the Old West
A cultural landmark in Cheyenne for more than 90 years
2006, Cheyenne, Wyoming … Since 1911, the historic Plains Hotel has been the icon of the elegant High Plains lodging and dining experience, and a favorite of presidents, movie stars and cattle barons. The distinctive, classic architecture, enriched with the colors, textures, and natural materials of the Wyoming Plains, celebrates the rich legacy of the American frontier and offers a glimpse into the spirit of the West.
Located in the heart of downtown Cheyenne, Wyo., the Plains Hotel completed a multi-million dollar renovation in 2003. Western artwork, photography and artifacts blend with stained glass, custom-designed furniture and bed coverings to create a cowboy high-style décor. Because of its cultural significance and commitment to preservation, the Plains Hotel has been recognized by the National Park Service on the list of National Register of Historic Places within the downtown Cheyenne Historic District.
The hotel features 131 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, with an on-site day spa, fitness center and full-service business center, and amenities such as oversized desks, 27” televisions, and thick, terry cloth towels. Thirty luxurious parlor and two-room suites also offer living rooms with sofa beds, spacious closets, wireless high-speed internet access, plush, cotton bathrobes, and more. For event and meeting planners, the Plains has six meeting rooms, professional catering and banquet staff, and a dedicated meeting services liaison to assist with meeting arrangement, menu planning and facility coordination.
Two on-site restaurants provide convenient dining options in the hotel’s charming, historic atmosphere. The Capitol Grille, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, features the finest, fresh, local ingredients, including high-quality, naturally tender, Wyoming beef products, all prepared with care by The executive chef and his staff. An extensive wine list complements the menu.
Reminiscent of a General Store from the old West, the Trail Coffee Shoppe serves freshly baked pastries, salads, homemade sandwiches, and Arbuckles’ Ariosa Coffee, a cowhand favorite since 1865. Room service is also available.
The Reata Collection, located in the hotel lobby, is the perfect place to pick up a unique gift or souvenir. The selection is best described as cowboy chic, featuring a sophisticated collection of jewelry, handbags and women’s accessories, upscale serving pieces inlaid with silver and genuine elk antler, Cripple Creek Western wear, and Plains Hotel signature Wyoming gifts.
There’s always something special happening at the Plains Hotel, with events scheduled throughout the year. From cowboy comedy and a Valentine’s Day “I Do” wedding package, to murder mysteries, wine dinners and holiday brunches, there are lots of reasons to visit anytime of year. The boutique atmosphere and exceptional food make every event memorable.
The Plains Hotel is conveniently located across from the newly renovated Union Pacific Railroad depot on the historic Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental road connecting New York City to San Francisco. Cheyenne’s celebrated past and dynamic future are blended in a city alive with activity. Located at the intersection of I-25 and I-80 approximately 90 miles north of Denver, Cheyenne’s 6,200’ elevation affords a wonderful view of the Rocky Mountains to the west and gentle rolling plains to the east.
